Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that having everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose death started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the secret base, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his obligations and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty location.
- The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could enable the party reach locations they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Fans can anticipate finding out which players will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
